A study of Jo Malinis' HOOK TYPEFACE
I had the chance to play around with Hook by Jo Malinis, a typeface whose forms are inspired by the hook of a song—a peculiar riff or lyric, repeated throughout the track, that tugs at the listener's ears.
With this line of thought, I decided to shortlist 20 k-pop songs that got me through 2020 and use the typeface to showcase how it is designed—for headlines for song titles to preserve its forms, and to display short pull quotes in the form of lyrics.
I made use of concept photos from each of the group's releases, and a few screenshots of performances to highlight and capture the color palette for each entry.
